In 2011, 46 years after his assassination, Malcolm X is still honored in New York. On the 86th anniversary of his birth, Malcolm’s life was remembered, as it has been for the last four and a half decades, with a solemn pilgrimage to his grave in upstate New York.
More than a year had passed since I had searched the streets of Harlem for Malcolm’s spirit, even making my own private trek to his burial ground. I was keen to experience a communal recollection of his life’s work and worth.
